A Restrained Approach to Wedding Design

A room can hold one strong idea beautifully. It struggles to hold four. When a colour story, a floral language, a lighting concept and a stationery style each pull in a different direction, the effect is busy rather than rich — and the cost rises with the noise.

Choose a material, not a theme

Themes date quickly. Materials do not. Linen, stone, brass, candle glass and one or two flower varieties repeated across the celebration create coherence that photographs well and feels intentional in person.

Let light do the decorating

Warm, low, layered light flatters faces, softens a venue's weaker corners and makes modest florals look considered. It is almost always the highest-return line in a design budget.

Spend where guests make contact

Seating comfort, table space, glassware, the temperature of the room and the pace of service are felt for hours. Concentrate the budget on those surfaces before adding another decorative layer above eye level.
